Supply chain & Handling
Timely Transport: Essential for maintaining quality; must be transported from farm to pack - house with pre-cooling facilities quickly.
Pre-cooling: Necessary to cool strawberries to 0-1 ºC before loading into refrigerated trucks or reefers.
Loading: Should be done from a climate-controlled dock via cold tunnels to prevent warm air from entering and causing condensation.
Cold Chain: Must be maintained at 0-1 ºC to prevent quality loss and fungal growth.
Careful Handling: During loading and unloading to avoid damage; inspect and document quality upon arrival.
During unloading strawberries must go into a cold storage directly.

​Growing Strawberries
Strawberry plants can grow well in a variety of soil types, from sandy to clay loams. However, for optimal production, the ideal soil is a deep, well-drained sandy loam.​
​
Strawberries thrive in slightly acidic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Strawberries are best grown in a matted row system, crops are placed 45 - 75 cm apart to allow free growth of roots.
